Over the past year I have learned more than I could have imagined about myself, healthy eating, fitness. The more I learn, the more I realize there is to learn. One of the biggest changes has been how my desire and modes of reaching out to those around me has changed. At first, I loved various forums like The Atkins Diet Bulletin Board. But eventually, as I became more comfortable with myself I began making short videos on youtube and posting to Run Cast TV. Video seemed a much easier medium for me than posting to my blog. In part due to time constraints and my inability to edit my own work. But these were all about my experiences and journey as I felt I didn't have much to share or teach. This has changed.

Part of the change started a few months ago when I noticed some of my favorite bloggers and friends talking about their low carb diets and I had to bite my tongue. I was seeing so many unhealthy behaviors that weren't being addressed in my favorite blogs and podcasts. I also began doing research on how low carb would affect my running and couldn't find easy access to the information or podcasts on the subject. I love podcasts and audio books because I am a busy single mom without much time to sit down and read for hours; there was a void. The final straw was Oprah handing out coupons to KFC. This combined with statistics for diabetes and obesity in the African American community as compared to already sky high numbers in other communities was the final push. I need to honor the lessons I have learned and give back.

All of this is a long winded way to introduce my new whole foods low carb running podcast called Running With Ghosts. I'm still mapping out the direction for the podcast and working to get it uploaded to itunes. I'm also looking forward to a new microphone and better sound quality. But so far so good. The focus will be on living a holistic whole foods approach to low carb while participating in endurance sports. It will chronicle my own journey and the lessons I learn about running and health. Hopefully I'll be able to do interviews and I already have a list of people I would love to speak to.

Oprah: REthink KFC! Say NO to Free Chicken!

I am so angry at Oprah right now. How dare she promote such an unhealthy product to the millions of people who trust her. She had an opportunity to create a real discussion on health and food availability. Instead she hands out coupons to KFC's new grilled chicken. The chickens are not raised in anywhere close to a healthy or sustainable way. The meat is bad quality and full of antibiotics. The Meat is marinated in MSG, Palm oil, Soy and sugar. The sides are even worse. If Oprah wanted to get behind something how about Oprah sponsored co-ops in the inner city neighborhoods that can't get a grocery store. How about getting behind the struggling non-profits trying to get locally grown produce in the schools. How about coupons for vegetables, meat or fruit! Oprah, millions of people especially poor people are going to use these coupons and internalize the idea, "heah, Oprah says it's healthy"

This is NOT healthy and you need to apologize. This kind of food is killing people. This doesn't mean, say you are sorry and give money to some overseas charity. No! You need to say you are sorry and support health at HOME.
